http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fantasticfourriseofthesilversurfer/large.html

the first movie was okay to mediocre, not horrible, but, compared to x-men or spiderman it was a league bellow. However this should be a much darker story (sadly Dr.Doom wasn't quite done justice)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!SPOLIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm already glad they threw in silver surfer, however he's probably mearly Galatuc's hearald, otherwise they are missing out on one of the best FF stories, and the surfers rise, should be that he gains his freedom from galactus in this story. Between this and spiderman 3, marvel might clean out the bank.

SAH-weet!  Been waiting for the trailer on this one.

BTW, you can d/l the HD trailer here http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/fantasticfourriseofthesilversurfer/hd/

Sith, you might wanna read up on the storyline for this flick, looks awfully promising with an apparent deal/plan to spin off a SS movie from this one.

the first movie was the worst ever, this looks slightly better, but im probably never going to see it because its probably not worth the time. seen the first on cable tv on holloween.  the grfx are great enough to get people drawn in and even defend that it was good because they liked the fantastic 4 because of there childhood or collections of comics and the story is still in there head.

MO, the eternal pessimist. He's like a combination of the Grinch, Grouchy Smurf, Icarus (Disney's version), and some emo/goth/doomsday-bible-thumper rolled into one.

well, it was terrable, the acting stunk, the script was terrible. this movie just attracted people because of the words "fantastic4" and the grfx that wow people.  if the actors were better actors then i might have thought this was a better movie, but it just was junk.

Eh, I'm with him on this one. The first one was a complete turd and I don't see this one being much different.

I love how in the trailer Johnny Storm doesn't give one thought to all the lives he's endangering flying like that. Yeah, I realize he's the "hothead" (pun intended) but it just seems kinda dumb to me.

What I did like is that SS dropped his butt from SPACE. Try "Flame on" from up there, pal.

I can think of at least 20 movies that were more of a let-down. I didn't have a problem with the movie. Despite what most of you comic fans might think, these movies have absolutely nothing to do with the comic book series' with one exception- they are BASED on the CHARACTERS from the comics. Most of the ones that even slightly resemble the original stories (Spiderman, Hulk) have more than enough inconsistencies to criticize. I'm not all about authentic replication of the comic stories, I just enjoy the cinematic effects, great costumes, and basic plot outline. Don't be so critical of a movie just because there is a comparable background. In that respect, the LotR trilogy sucked too, because it was nothing like the books (they didn't even have the donkey in there). But I still loved the movies. Not because they were "close enough", but because they were entertaining and told me a story I hadn't SEEN before.

See the original wasn't THAT bad, when compared to daredevil, or catwoman, I didn't see them, but even from the trailers, I was like ohhh no, they dropped the ball on this one. I just have the sense with this one that they are trying to make it a little more serious, since it's pretty much one of the darkest FF stories they have, and a reveared classic. I'm hoping it'll atleast be a little better then the first, perhaps even up there with the spiderman and x-men movies. I'm not expecting it to be like sin city, the only thing that will touch that quality, will hopefully be 300, go figure. everything else comming out this summer thats an adaption (transformers, TMNT, spinderman 3, ghost rider) will be softened and changed for the mainstream movie audience a bit, but the writers and directors can get some decent stuff in there. Like superman returns, it might not be the next big thing, but I hope to be happy seeing it in the theater atleast once.

SPOILERS.......Also for Smerg

Hmmm wicked thanks smerg, I'll defenetly look it up. I'd be suprised if they made a silver surfer movie. It would defenetly be for the comic book fans, cause even the comics are a little out there, since your dealing with all these abstract cosmic entities that look nothing close to human, cutting down on the average audience sympathy factor, heck SS if he's anything like the comics, or like from the trailer for this movie, is a cold calculating god, with just a touch of compasion, and memories of a lost love he can never find. But oh lord the fight scenes will make star wars look like an ant farm. Kind of like dragon ball z, with out the ridiculously long build up, just fighting at the actual speed of light.

Oh lighten up Oaf.

Sorry that Jessica Alba in her underwear doesn't do it for ya.  I'd say your in the minority on that one.

And no, Obviously I wasn't basing the entire movie on that.

I have to wonder what it is that you're actually basing your criticisms on. I mean, we're not talking about "Saving Private Ryan" here; it's a comic book movie. What do you expect from it. I doubt anyone thought they were going for an oscar nomination. None of those comic movies are ever done with any real seriousness. I doubt they could. They are what they are.

It's simply supposed to be two hours of entertainment and escapism for comic book fans. Nothing more, nothing less.

You know there is a movie where she takes her shirt of, and it's very very good, THE best adaptation, perhaps ever, defenetly in my mind. Not a bad movie either, especially if you love comics, film noir, action, and some interesting charecter acting (elijah wood defenetly one of the biggest suprise, perhaps because he wanted to shake off frodo a bit). This film is called.................

SIN CITY.

That movie did well because it was a creation of art, from a creation of art. Into the blue I doubt made as much money, and certainly didn't win as much critical appraisal, or as much flak from conservatives. Both have her taking her shirt off, so where is your theory now?

Nothing to do with the movie but my introduction to the Silver Surfer was from the album cover for Joe Satriani's "Surfing With The Alien".  Great album/CD.  I'd never heard of Silver Surfer before then.  That was 1987, I think.

I guess I'm a liitle tired of the Dark Stuff...especially with what they did to my beloved BatMan.

But I agree with the "it's just a comic book made into a movie, for crime in Itlee" mind set.

Still, when oh when are they gonna make movies out of the truly great comics, like Groo the Wanderer, or The Elementals?cool

so where is your theory now?

I'm not exactly sure what your asking, or if it's directed at me or MO. I didn't say the quality of the film had anything to do with Alba, I just said I like her with her shirt off.

Here's where my theory is now;  we are all talking strictly from personal opinion. There are plenty of people out there who will tell you they were dissapointed with Sin City for any number of reasons.

I happen to love Sin City myself. But you cannot compare Sin City to FF based on a shirtless Jessica.

Sin City had HUGE things going for it that FF doesn't. First off, a whole cast of famous respected actors. Look at that cast list. And directors as well. Didn't Tarentino direct part of that?

PLUS, it's done in that film noir style, that carries a respectability and appeal all it's own.

Plus, it was done in that jumping around between mini-stories that all magically tie together in the end ala Pulp Fiction.

And let's not forget, a whole slew of hot chicks, many with no clothes on.

Sin City's a great flick.

Does that mean that someone could have done a better job with FF? Why sure. But I think they tried to keep the feel of the comic book, which definately was not film noir.

Anyway, I'm not even sure what point we're all debating anymore, but bottom line for me is, I don't really care that FF wasn't 'all it could be', because I wasn't expecting it to be in the first place. Would I like to see these comic movies handled with more seriousness and academy award aspirations? Surely.

I just know better than to both expect it, or whine about it afterwards.

I took my kid to the movies, we had a good time for a couple hours, and that was all I
wanted.

Jessica was just a bonus.

By the way Sith, when I first started reading your post, I thought you were going to mention that movie with Alba swimming around in the ocean. What was that one called again? I need to see that one more than I needed to see FF. :yup:
