Elephant's Dream is a short film created using solely free open source software. Competing against Over the Hedge, by Dreamworks, and Monster House, by Sony Pictures Imageworks, in the UK Linux & Open Source Awards 06. Elephant's Dream bagged first place.

You can download the very weird short . Or find it on You Tube. If you are confused about what is going on, I suggest the making of documentaries that are a ways down the page,

I'm positive this was mentioned already in a previous post. Very impressive work, and considering it came from free software, I'm very impressed. I'm actually hoping to complete a short film myself using CG, and considering that most 3D animation software is very expensive, I'm gonna look into using one of these free ones. I'm already decent with Lightwave and Max, and I've used several other 3D apps, but I don't own either LW or Max, and none of the "demo" versions of the top end stuff can be used this extensively.

I do suggest using Blender. There are a lot of good tutorials to get you used to the completely customizable interface. Blendernation.com has a lot of good info. is a site that I have done a few battles on. It's a fun way to learn the software.
