So last night Nicholas and myself went to see DOOM in theatres. Having only watch him play Doom and not myself, as well as we both love movies, I wanted to know what your take was on it.

Here are my ratings, and I might give reason into them.

Plot:  Star Star Star  / 5

I gave it a decent rating because the story line had a mixture of things which I personally enjoy, comedy, drama, and action. It gave a mixture of personal relationships with allow you to connect with a few of the characters.

Acting: Star Star  / 5

I thought there was some serious lack of acting. I do not mind 'The Rock' so much, but I thought his acting and those of his fellow crew mates could have been better brought out. I saw some very good acting from the one warrior's sister. I did, however, like how 'The Rock' did play his part to a T, but then again, there really is not a lot of acting when it comes to action, fighting, and death.

Special Effects: Star Star Star Star  / 5

This was one of my favorite parts of this movie. They were able to incorperate alot of the inner game graphics into the movie, including some of the beasts which you see in the game. The graphics on some of the guns was well done and reminded me of the beginning videos Tom Clancey has. There was the one gun shooting graphic in the movie which was very dramatic and I enjoyed it. They did an extremely well job mixing both human and computer animation on that movie. The only reason I did not give it a 5/5 was because of the First Person view which I think took away from the over all graphic feeling. It seemed more fake and drawn aside the rest of the movie, however, it was quite the attention grabber. Made your heart race like the first few competition games I played with Ravenshield and Ghost Recon.

Scare Factor: Star Star Star  / 5

I liked the movie and the graphics, they added the right touch to the beasts and the movie had you sitting on your seat at some points (well, for me at least).

Sound Track : Star Star Star Star  / 5

Awesome soundtrack. Had a great mixture of music which I like to hear, however, I do not think they added enough music.

I wanted to know how everyone else who saw it thinks of it ... and if you read this without seeing the movie, do you plan to see it?

I can honestly say that Nicholas and I enjoyed the movie. Was it worth the 21.95 we paid to see it? Hmm ... Borderline yes. I was happy to see it. However I do believe that if I was not a gamer the movie would have been a waste of my money and time. The movie only really seems to reach out to a specific genre of people.

heres my review for the movie

plot 1/5 stars... had nothing to do with the game, and sucked anyways

Acting- 2/5 stars. What happened to the rock? acting was horrible

Special effects- 4/5 stars. they had some decent effect but nothing to pee our pants about

Scare factor- 1/5 stars. totally stupid and more boring than anything else, they turned doom into a lame horror movie for the first hour of the movie.

Sound track... umm i dont know i was too busy sulking in the suckiness of the movie to notice, But if it follows suit with the rest of the movie it sucks.

Overall that was honestly one of the worst movies ive ever seen. im not really a doom fan so im not angry that it disgraced the doom name. I just really hated that movie.

Having seen this film over the weekend, I might as well chime in.

Expectations for movies tend to be a lot higher than they used to be, probably because we've been awed by a scant few films in the past 5 years that really raised the bar for films in the "gamer" genre. Such films include The Matrix, Underworld, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy, and several others.

Doom fails to provide that same level of awe- mainly because the recent Doom 3 game left many of us with very high expectations for a film interpretation.

I was seriously hoping to find more elements from the Doom 3 game in the movie. Things I'd have loved to see:

- an actual storyline based on the hell portal and the artifacts
- more creatures from the game (zombies, an "almost-imp" variation, and one "dog"= not enough)
- more variation on environment (where's the HELL stuff??!!)
- the train station, the mars surface, and the plot of the evil scientist

The acting was decent, though the marine actors could have been picked from a better lot than the ones they offered. Were all of these guys previously B-grade "post-apocalyptic" movie co-stars? They could have used some true talent there.

Special effects were decent, but again, a bit more hell-based teleporting and better weaponry than just the BFG would have gone a long way.

Sound and music scores were both good.

Overall- not worth the price of admission, wait til the DVD comes out, then RENT it. You'd be better off spending your money on something like a used copy of Mission to Mars or Red Planet, or simply go out and buy Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Save your theater money for King Kong.

Just watched DOOM last night on DVD.

Not a bad flick considering.  I mean it's not exactly award winning stuff that the movie was based on...a gore and blast'em game.

So taking into account it's your standard popcorn muncher action flick and that it's a game to movie deal, IMHO it wasn't that bad.   Definately not deserving of some of the reviews it recieved.  Was sweet that they included the BFG.  Was also really nifty how they included different aspects of the games into the movie.

Definately worth the rental and check out.  Might even sneak it's way into my DVD collection if I catch it at the 2nd hand cd/dvd store I frequent.

I think they avoided the whole Hell aspect, because of christian lobby orginizations. especially at a time of hot coffee mods, and them being targeted as sources of inspiration for columbine, they toned down what they could to get this out the door. I think thats where it started to suffer, they started comprimising on what it could be, so it could be accepted as a mass medium.
