Anyone else see it?  I thought it was definitely an improvement over other recent films, I'd say maybe even one of the top three all time plotwise.  The new guy playing Bond (whose name escapes me) is a fitting replacement for Brosnan.  They also took advantage of the resetting of the series to tweak some of the key characters', well, characters from earlier.  In particular, I James is much more calculating this time around, and slightly less cold.  Likewise, it doesn't focus on the gadgets (Q doesn't even make an appearance) but keeps the focus on Bond's learning how to work as a 00.  This also makes the film more gritty as fights are one on one and hand to hand.  Bond kills however he can, including drowning a guard in a sink and choking another assassin to death.
Another thing: the girl isn't your typical Bond broad.  There is depth to the female lead that keeps getting developed and revealed constantly even (literally) up to the last 2 minutes of the film.
Final note: great stuntwork and just enough explosions to make the masses happy without detracting from the deeper plot.
Star Star Star Star Star
Now go see it.

I haven't seen it yet, but plan to.  This was Ian Flemmings first book, I believe.  It is light years from the first Casino Royale, which I loved for its waky format and underlying plot that "its all about Cowboys against the Indians!

Thanks for the revue, looking forward to it.

I just got back from watching it.

WOW!!! first time in a while where I've actually come back wanting to watch it again. Although the product placement sucks, it's a minor niggle with a major film. Definately one to see.

Plus Eva Green is hot.
(although I'm not too certain what I make of the theme!)

I'll see it when it comes out on DVD.  Sounds like a pretty good movie.

We've given up on theaters.  They play everything too loud and we're tired of being treated like cattle.

Man, isn't that so damn true. It's a running joke that every time I go some jackass is going to carry on a full-blown discussion during the movie right behind me. I've gotten in staredowns/near arguments the last 3 movies I've gone to.

The noise, the people... ugh.

However, I saw this in the theater (and yes, I needed to stare down some punk kids after I told them to shut the f up). I thought it rocked.

Keep in mind farmboy- it wasn't a new, tender Bond. This is Bond when he just starts out as a 00. He's described as a blunt instrument. He lets his emotions rule him still. He does some things that aren't so bright, and learns from them.

I really liked it. I thought David Craig was awesome, I thought the writing (and rewrites) from the original were great, and it wasn't a parody of itself as Bond movies have become.

My favorite parts of the movie are when hes at the bar and asks  for his drink and the bartender asks him "shaken or stirred" and he responds "does it look like I $%#$(*% care"

Second best was when he got the $#!^ beat out of his balls, and he passes the joke "no a little to the right" ohh that was just precious ... a little to the right :-P i was crying when I heard that one.

This new guy I think is going to be the best bond yet, this movie has got me REALLY excited to see what he does next, I would say for sure this is the best bond movie released yet.

The wife and I used to go to the movies almost every week. Now with the little guy, I think it's been twice in the last year. I still think some movies are best on the big screen - which means I should probably just buy a monster tv

The people sitting behind me were literally children, maybe 9-10 years old. They were well behaved enough but I couldn't help but think "WTF are your parents thinking?". It definitely wasn't a family movie.

As far as Casino Royale goes, excellent flick. I've never been a fan of Bond, but my wife is so I've seen most of the movies. This re-invented Bond is my favourite by a huge margin. It's a definite DVD purchase.Thumbs up 2 Thumbs up 2

Anyone else think the beginning scene was pretty damn sweet, with the guy running around jumpin over and through stuff like it was nothing?  The only thing I didn't like about this movie is there was no gadgets.  Bond isn't bond without gadgets.  I mean, they did throw a defibrillator in the movie, but I don't classify that as a highly dangerous weapon...  The new bond was a lot better than I expected though...  Still no Roger Moore or Sean Connery though.

You compared him to Roger Moore? ...ugh.

Sean Connery was easily the best Bond previously. Moore didn't have the presence, the style, or the look of a "hard-ass" like Connery and Craig do. Furthermore, if you've read any of the books, gadgets really aren't a big thing. I'd much rather have a Casino Royale-style Bond than an Octopussy Bond (ha!) any day. I liked that the new Bond used a silenced ppk more than anything else.

Roger Moore (and the directors, script writers and producers) ruined Bond for quite awhile. I loved them as a kid, but I also loved Condor Man when I was a kid, so that's not saying much. They were hokey, flaky and just predictably unexciting. They were movies of the early 80's.

Supposedly the guy they had doing all the parcuer stuff was the guy that actually "invented" parcuer. And one of may fav seens was during the chase with the plaster board wall. To be fair I like the bond at the begining of the film more than I do at the end......... (mind you I also liked Timothy Dalton in License to Kill, which flopped and put Bond on hold for about 15 years so I guess my opinion doesnt count for much  )

Lack of gadgets? I take it you didnt like Dr No then? and the defibrillator scene really annoyed me.

Oh and for the record, its a P99 he uses in Casino Royale, he switched to it from a PPK during Tomorrow Never Dies.

(I'm very tempted to dust off the old N64 for some "golden eye action")

Loved this film, saw it on opening night, the best part was that the first car he drove was a Ford! And the second best part was the you scratched my balls joke. Nice to see bond with a bit of depth.
