Frank miller inspires such awe in film makers it's scary, much like his writing. I still need his dark knight returns to have a faithful conversion to film, but 300 will make the wait for that all that much sweeter I hope, hell finishing the sin city books first might make more sense. Living comics, thats the only way to describe it. Most of the marvel and dc ones are great, but millers conversions are basicly just like reading and actually looking at the comics, and 300 looks to follow in that path. The others are just putting comic book charecters into the real world, perhaps with some nods to the visual style of the various artists that shaped them.

If Sin City was "dumb" then that was more a fault of Frank Miller's writing than t he filmmakers- they basically took what he created and made it into a movie. I can see the argument of people who thought Sin City was just too "out there" and not realistic enough; however that was kind of the point. It's not a film for everyone.
The 300 however, should be really really cool. It's loosely based on a historical event, and as a whole is something that should translate better to film. The visuals I've seen for it are pretty amazing in my opinion, and it captures Miller's vision perfectly. Of course, I'm biased, I've loved Frank's work for years, and loved Sin City. However I think The 300 will stand up to time better than Sin City which is a bit of a niche film.

That movie is gonna kick some major ass, so long as it's as good as the trailer was.

The battle of Theopoly has historical precedence, as does King Leonidas. The quote about "Then we will fight in the shade" also was believed to come from these events.
[Potential Spoiler ALERT] Supposedly 300 Spartans held off a much larger Persian army through the use of the terrain around them. Of course this could be exaggerated. [/potential spoiler]
Outside of that I think the rest is conjecture and fiction. However, it is a very interesting story in my opinion, and seeing how closely they have captured Frank's imagination I can't help but think they'll stay close to his script.

Yeah, I'm totally psyched for it. I even have the trailer saved on my 360 and I'll break it out and play it every few days. On a side note, I have been thinking of seeing Apocalypto.

just a small bump on this one.
it's one of those things(trailer) you've seen 100 times but still get all giddy watching. Sin City was the only other movie i got this excited over. i can't wait.

Ah sweet, this has some stuff I've actually not seen. I'm personally not worried about spoiling the story at all since I've read Miller's graphic novel. I'm just excited about how it'll play on screen.
