Anyone read "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy?
Amazing book. One of the best I've read in a long time. The book is set in the midst of a nuclear winter that has killed every living thing on the planet except for a scattered collection of roving, largely solitary, scavengers/survivalists. The book follows the journey of a father and his son as they try to make their way south, walking along a road to the coast. The book focuses heavily on the interaction between the son and father, and how the two depend on each other (each for different reasons)...
The book is really dark and depressing but at the same time it is really uplifting, it's hard to describe... basically the world has been stripped bare, and so you see the best and the worst among the dying embers of humanity.
I HIGHLY recommend this book, and I am interested to see what other people who have read thought of it.

I guess not. Oh well, it's a good book.
I just finished "No Country for Old Men" also by McCarthy.
Another good book. If you've read "A Simple Plan" by Scott Smith you'll notice many similarities. A man out hunting finds a case full of money at a location that looks like a drug deal gone bad. He takes the case and all hell breaks loose.

Must be nice to have time to read. Maybe once I find some magical time I'll look into these books. They certainly sound interesting. My list of "when I have time" hobbies grows...

Sounds really good. I haven't read it or heard of the author, but it sounds like something I'd enjoy.
I'm currently reading "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, and am really enjoying it. I have been meaning to read his stuff for awhile and never did. I'm glad I picked it up on a whim at 1/2 price books.

Actually ZazooI have read it, it is/was one of the best books i have read. Very very dark, yet captivating all at the same time. It's actually quite the read if you're having a cup of coffee @ starbucks, or by a fireplace, because you actually get quite cold from reading it. Highly recommend it.
